When you upgrade your AliasFleet subscription in the middle of a billing cycle, we calculate the cost difference down to the second. This process is called proration.
How Proration Works for Upgrades
Upgrading your account grants you immediate access to higher limits and new features. Because you already paid for your current cycle, our billing system calculates:
- The unused time remaining on your current plan (which becomes a credit).
- The cost of the new plan for the exact remaining time in the cycle.
The credit from your old plan is applied to the cost of your new plan. You are only charged the difference.
Why You Might See "$0.00 Due Today"
Sometimes, when you review the checkout page for an upgrade, you might see that the amount due today is $0.00. This happens when the prorated credit from your existing plan fully covers the immediate cost of the new plan for the remaining days of the cycle. Any leftover credit will remain on your account and automatically apply to your next scheduled invoice.
Downgrades and Proration
As noted in our Downgrading Your Plan article, downgrades work differently. When you move to a lower tier, the change is scheduled for the end of your current billing cycle. You keep your current features until then, which means proration does not apply, and no partial refunds are issued.
Reviewing Your Charges
You can always review exactly how your proration was calculated by checking your invoices. Read our Understanding Your Invoices guide for help locating and reading your invoice details.
